Serneke to develop housing in Varberg

2/06/2021

Serneke has signed a land allocation agreement with the Municipality of Varberg to develop and construct 40 tenant-owned homes and premises in the new district of Västerport in Varberg.

In the former industrial harbor area in Varberg, the completely new district of Västerport is being developed, which will, in the longer term, offer space for 2,500 homes. In the first stage, encompassing 500 new homes, Serneke has signed a land allocation agreement involving the construction of 40 tenant-owned homes and premises, immediately adjacent to the quayside.

“We are pleased to have signed an agreement with the Municipality and are proud to be involved in the development of Västerport. This will be a unique neighborhood and an asset for all of the city’s residents. This will be the first project we develop in-house in Varberg, and we look forward to getting started,” says Jonas Håkansson, Construction Manager at Serneke.

The 40 apartments, ranging in scale from studio apartments to apartments with three bedrooms, living room and kitchen, will have a total living space of about 4,000 m2, of which about 500 m2 will be premises. The project will feature a shared roof-top terrace.

The agreement was preceded by a land allocation competition in which Arkitekt Bornstein and Lyckefors submitted a design proposal for “The living neighborhood” together with Serneke. The design was inspired by the nearby Varberg Fortress, being built, in part, of red brick.

The construction of the homes is scheduled to commence in 2025.
