Serneke and Specialfastigheter are taking the next step in developing Sagsjön women’s correctional facility in Lindome
Serneke and Specialfastigheter have now reached phase two of their partnership to develop the Sagsjön women’s correctional facility in Lindome, south of Gothenburg. The parties have now signed a turnkey contracting agreement valued at about SEK 420 million in total.
Serneke and Specialfastigheter initiated a partnership in 2020, working together closely with the project’s planning and finances. The project is now entering phase two, the production phase, in which both parties have chosen to continue the partnership to develop Sagsjön.
In addition to new construction, the project includes converting and extending parts of the women’s correctional facility, with the total number of places for inmates set to increase from 35 to 77. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is currently experiencing a major lack of space at its correctional facilities and jails. The development of the Sagsjön correctional facility goes some way towards remedying this. The correctional facility’s existing buildings will be demolished, with two new buildings of a total 12,500 m2 being constructed over two floors plus a basement.
The correctional facility will have security classifications 2 and 3, of which classification 2 is currently the highest for women. However, about ten places will offer an even higher level of security, making Sagsjön an alternative for receiving even the highest-security inmates.
“It really feels amazing for Serneke and the project organization, led by Jon Möller, to have secured the continued trust of Specialfastigheter in this complex contracting assignment. We now look forward to continuing this rewarding partnership, constructing secure premises and developing Sagsjön,” says Michael Henningsson, Construction Manager at Serneke.
Serneke already has a framework agreement with Specialfastigheter where the company is one of four players to share contracts worth a total of approximately SEK 8-10 billion. The contract amount for the Sagsjön project amounts to approximately SEK 420 million, of which SEK 70 million was generated in 2021. The remaining order value of about SEK 350 million is included in the order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2021. The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2024.
