Serneke renovates Dramaten - the Royal Dramatic Theater

10/9/2018

The Swedish National Property Board has commissioned Serneke to install new mains connections at the premises of Dramaten (the Royal Dramatic Theater) at Nybroplan in Stockholm, and to rebuild all of the wet rooms in the building.

Serneke’s assignment involves very carefully exchanging sewer pipes, replacing cold and hot water pipes, rebuilding all of the wet rooms with new terrazzo floors, decorative painting, renovating artist’s dressing rooms and installing additional ventilation.

Dramaten is Sweden’s national stage and the building, which was completed in 1908, is a nationally listed building. The building has undergone several major and minor remodeling phases, although the public spaces are essentially as they were originally.

“We consider it an honor to work with such an iconic building. The renovation will impose strict demands on us as a contractor as we will be conducting such extensive work in a building from the last century, with its authentic finishes and fixtures. The geographical location also imposes demands on meticulous planning of transport in and out of the site,” says Marlene Wiberg, Construction Manager at Serneke Construction.

“We have great confidence in the National Property Board’s choice of Serneke as contractor. In parallel with change of mains connections, Dramaten is also conducting extensive renovations of its main stage, which will primarily involve replacing the stage rigging, imposing strict demands on coordination. We look forward very much towards this technically challenging and exciting project,” says Fredrik Österholm, Technical Director at Dramaten.

The renovation work will commence in May 2019 and is scheduled for completion in December of the same year. The contract value of approximately SEK 22 million will be included in order bookings for the third quarter of 2018.
