Serneke secures land allocation for major hotel investment in Halmstad

3/27/2018

Through a land allocation on the Österskans site in central Halmstad, Serneke has gained the opportunity to develop a new focal point in the city, including a hotel and market hall.

The Municipality of Halmstad today adopted Serneke’s Nya sammanhang (New Contexts) proposal as the winner of the land allocation contest announced by the municipality for the Österskans site on the eastern bank of the Nissan River. By relocating the bus terminal to the new transport center, opportunities are opened up to transform Österskans from a traffic hub to a central meeting place in the city.

“This is a great opportunity to create a public, vibrant and attractive urban space for the whole of Halmstad. It will not only be a beautiful and iconic building but also a meeting place for Halmstad’s residents and visitors,” says Jonas Håkansson, Regional Manager South at Serneke Project Development.

With its proximity to the city library, Halmstad Theater, several parks and the Nissan River, the ambition is to create a location for meetings between culture, trade and leisure, attracting residents and visitors of all ages. Serneke’s proposal includes a 16-story hotel building that, in addition to some 200 hotel rooms, will also house a market hall, restaurants, a spa facility and conference rooms. The proposal utilizes the location on the banks of the Nissan River by means of a public wooden deck that will stretch down to the water from the hotel and continue with a walkway to the Picasso Park.

“Halmstad is a wonderfully pleasant city. For the Winn Hotel Group, it is an honor to play our part as the city takes a new step. Together with the others involved, we will create a unique hotel. ‘Meeting places’ in the true sense of the term, are at the core of our work. Guests and Halmstad residents alike will meet here – every week, every day and every hour,” says Anders Junger, CEO of Winn Hotel Group.

The winning proposal has been prepared together with White Architects, Winn Hotel Group and the Fem Hjärtan Fastigheter property company.
