Serneke to renovate Botanhuset in Stockholm
Serneke has been commissioned to renovate the 100-year-old Botanhuset at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. This comprehensive renovation project will create functional operational premises and a favorable environment for the major botanical collections housed in the building. The client is the National Property Board Sweden (SFV).
“It is with great commitment, that we undertake the renovation of this beautiful and historic building. We look forward yet another beneficial collaboration with SFV and to helping preserve the botanical collections, dating from as far back as the 18th century, for future generations,” says Marlene Wiberg, Construction Manager at Serneke.
The assignment includes internal remodeling of the property and exterior groundwork. Among other things, a new ventilation system will be installed and the technical installations will be updated to current standards. This is to be achieved with as little impact on the skeleton of the building as possible. At the heart of the building, the magnificent staircase will be given a new color scheme to recreate its original character.
“The building, which is more than 100 years old, is in considerable need of renovation, with no major refurbishment having been carried out since then. Having the opportunity, alongside our procured contractor Serneke, to improve the working environment, with the premises being more efficiently designed, obsolete technologies being replaced and with the building being made more accessible, feels great,” says Charlotta Andersson Lund, who is responsible for the renovation project at SFV.
Botanhuset was designed by Axel Anderberg and inaugurated in 1916. From the outset, the building was designed as a botanical museum. In 1935, the Swedish Museum of Natural History and Botanhuset became listed buildings. Since the 1970s, the building has housed research operations, as well as major botanical collections.
The project will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2022. The order value of approximately SEK 70 million is included in order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2020.
